Women in Web3 do it differently. So why not own that in my collection?
Women in Web3 do it differently.
Yep, we stand out among the crowd — representing only 19% of the industry. (And 5% of NFT artists.)
We’ve got a lot of passion to help each other, and make this space more accessible and inclusive.
So why not own that in my collection?
I’ve done my research (always DYOR). I know that good projects need a roadmap, utility and community. But…
I believe in art for art’s sake —
It allows you to hold onto a moment.
It allows you to embrace vulnerability.
& It allows you to share a simple joy.
Also the best laid plans, well — I’ve lived enough to know that they don’t always go according to plan.
So I decided to do what feels natural to me:
Not promise anything other than to keep creating.
(Which is a given… see for yourself here or here.)
To make NFTs work for me, and my art.
Because that’s how you’ll get the masterpiece.
That’s how you’ll sustain a passion.
That’s how you’ll keep showing up and build an authentic community.
A forced hand is never the way to go.
So here you have it:
(the most ‘me’ roadmap, and probably the most different than what’s out there)…
a spontaneous 1/1 drop.
Because my favorite bar in St. John (we’ll get into that story another time…) used to hang a sign that said, “Out to live.” If you got there at the right time, you were in luck. If not, well try again later. Whoever’s around, gets first dibs.
no set pricing — ever.
Just like my IRL art, I want to make my NFTs accessible and affordable. Regardless of who my IRL collectors are or NFT collectors come to be. Everyone should have a chance to own a piece of art that makes them happy. + I’m not dropping these to make money. (I mean yes, I will accept your ETH for sure)… but the thing is, I paint for paintings sake. And will do so regardless.
weekly auctions.
To keep it fun, after the initial spontaneous drop, I’m going to drop at least one piece a week. Up for auction for the week (announced right here in this very newsletter!).
You never know what you’re going to get. One week, it might be a collab with a Real Housewife or 1883 actor. Another week, it might be an old painting of James Dean. Another week, it might be an inspiring woman of Web3. Some weeks, it might be a single image… other weeks, I’ll have my Photoshop fun and drop a few slightly unique versions.
the in-between.
Man, I love a good in-between. It’s like when you’re traveling and you’re taking off… no longer on land, not yet in the sky. Stuff always hits me at that moment — sometimes it’s a good cry, sometimes it’s inspiration. You just never know what it’s going to look like (pretty much how I feel about each day), so I’m honoring that. If you’re kind, maybe you’ll get an airdrop. If I make some merch, maybe you’ll get that. If I want to part with an IRL painting, maybe you’ll get that along with your NFT. If I want to go big, maybe I’ll make a gallery of them all someday…
If you can guess the drop date I have in mind, you get a free one 😉
🤝 #FullyDoxxed -- Who's Who of Web3
*This is a new section I’m adding in, because…
A) I’ll soon be tying it to full blog profiles of amazing people like yourself!
B) I was inspired after seeing Kayla Santos’ move into Web3 as the Head of Brand Marketing at MoonPay on LinkedIn. (Thank you, Avery Akkineni for bringing more women into this space!)
C) I want to celebrate women making waves in crypto and help everyone get to know their colleagues in Web3! (Queue “It’s A Small World”)
Also, clearly as I wrote my intro this week (AKA my roadmap – up late late last night)…
I was hung up on thoughts about identity:
What represents me as an artist? What feels good to me? If the ‘traditional’ NFT roadmap doesn’t align with me, should I shift my identity to match it? Is that the only way to be successful here? I wonder how other people’s Web3 identities differ from their IRL personas… if they’re more or less themselves… What does this NFT PFP say about me? How will it portray me to non-Web3 folk? etc. etc. etc. (You get the idea, I went down the rabbit hole.)
So I might share some of those musings and identity unveilings here too.
Like how Paris Hilton claimed to be the NFT artist Pak this week, after Snoop Dogg has claimed to be Cozomo ‘de Medici and Sia claimed to be granddaughter Bianca 'de Medici.

A tech editor shares what a 1994 Bill Gates keynote tells us about the metaverse
“If there’s one thing we know for sure about the metaverse, it’s that we don’t know anything for sure about the metaverse.”
So what do you think? Did Bill predict the future?
Ah, the future.
Of metaverse, of Web3, of NFTs, of blockchain… there are A LOT of thoughts swirling around this topic. Will they last? Or not? In what capacity?
Here’s a few from this week:
A Fast Co. writer ponders if we’ll still want the metaverse when the pandemic is over.
Answer to the above : It ain’t going anywhere. Heck, forget going back to the office – at least 11 agencies like Wunderman Thompson are building metaverse offices instead.
Also, case in point: Web3 is now even driving how we watch tv. Samsung + Nifty Gateway partnered up this week to launch the first NFT Smart TV Service. (Peep The Gimmicks for an example of how owning an NFT helps you choose the plot of a show.)
And it’s bringing back an element of the music industry that I haven’t seen since my Saturday mornings watching VH1 as a teen. See Snoop Dogg, who unsurprisingly released the first metaverse music video this week.
Add this: Crypto island is becoming an IRL thing. As in – you need to spend $130,000 for citizenship. Pretty sure you can pay in ETH. Here’s how you’ll get there…
And we can’t forget what Yuga Labs is up to. NFT leader Jimmy McNelis forecasts the future of BAYC.
So yeah, pretty sure there’s a future for allll this good stuff. Especially when you key in these big shifts about the way we make it rain ~
Britain’s Royal Mint will have an NFT ready by Summer.
MetaMask + Apple Pay coupled up, as OpenSea looks to MoonPay. (Peep Lisa Teh’s recent post for a discussion on if this will be the thing to make crypto and NFTs #mainstream)
Soooo next week I’ll be buying my SweetGreen with Polygon? Prolly.
In other news…
A DAO is selling NFTs for the right to tweet
Called Tweet DAO, members are paying to get the right to tweet and it’s resulting in a multifaceted Twitter profile. Votes on if Papa Elon bought in??

🛍 Brand Business
If you want to keep up to date on the latest brands entering Web3, this is a ballin’ list that’s updated regularly. (Thank you, Ad Age.)
I’ve collected some highlights from the week –
Adidas is doing something with Ready Player Me I don’t quite understand… but it’s called Ozworld if you want to figure it out for yourself.
ESPN inked it with Brady – unrelated to whether we will or will not see him on the field next year.
Lamborghini got Steve Aoki in on a special project for the last-ever Aventador Coupe auction.
Visa is helping creators with their NFT businesses (yes, I applied).
Have you tried the IRL cold brew with vanilla sweet cream? Relevant. Because Starbucks is jumping in the NFT pool – and yes, I will be their first customer.
In high school, Tiffany & Co. necklaces were the IT item. I begged for one engraved with my initials. Now, I might have to do the same for one of their acquired NFTs.

How The Metaverse Was Born with Anna Stoilova
Anna Stoilova is the Co-Founder of Rogue Fox Guild, the first P2E roguelike adventure game. Anna joins the Women in Web3 podcast to talk about:

How the ‘metaverse’ was later born – and what that term even means
What it’s like building something that a lot of people still don’t understand (gm to you too)
What drew her into the Web3 community (as if writing emails in emojis wasn’t enough)
And how to not stay up until 4 AM checking Discord notifications (though we’re all guilty at one point or another)

501 Alchemist: Turning illegal firearms into sneakers with a social impact, this NFT project is unlike any I’ve seen before.
501 Alchemist NFT transforms illegal firearms gathered from regions affected by armed violence into commodities for peace with each NFT, all while rewarding collectors with the rarest meta-sneakers on Earth. In partnership with Nifty Gateway and Humanium Metal, income generated from the project will be reinvested into communities affected by gun violence, aiming to break the vicious cycle of violence and poverty.
