Women in Web3 - Issue #44
Welcome to Women in Web3! I’m Carly from Weld Recruiting and this is the 44th edition of our weekly get-down!
If you’re still questioning what all the hubbub around web3 is about, here’s some insight…
The results are in: Last week, I polled LinkedIn to see what aspects of web3 excite you the most.
36% are in it for the tech.
26% are in it for the social.
22% are in it for the financial.
16% had their own ideas…
Michael Bresler of 14 West said, “For me it is about providing a new level of customer experience that is unprecedented and at this point cannot be comprehended.” Read an example of that type of new CX here.
John De Goes of Fancurve said, “Web3 is the biggest technological revolution since internet went mainstream. Not even the raise of social media (web 2.0) was as significant as web3 (blockchain tech). Web3 has the potential to touch every aspect of our lives, adding trustless transparency to transactions most people don’t know how much could be improved by becoming web3. A new era of owners is around the corner, web3 will empower users… we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a truly beautiful future here.”
Julia Lewis of WorkHaven said, “Love the creation of niche communities where everyone can interact and be themselves. Also the creation of NFTs for social justice issues.”
William De'Ath of Guardians of the Blockchain said, “SSI + DID for user ownership of digital assets and data. Ingo Ruebe KILT Protocol.” … and I am still Googling what half those things are 😆
Shaun Pannell of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP said, “The new types of products and services it enables.”

Now for this week’s guest…
Sara Moric works in communications and PR for the Web3 industry, with stints at BitPanda, one of the biggest European exchanges, and LimeWire, a music NFT space that was created with the intent to make NFTs go mainstream. Sara visits the Women in Web3 podcast to discuss the evolution and possibilities of NFTs. She describes how the public’s definition of NFTs is constantly changing and can mean something different to everyone.
Sara’s favorite part about NFTs is that they give artists direct support and investments from their fans, rather than having to go through a large streaming service. She also tells us how NFTs aren’t just photos or jpegs; they are digital assets that can unlock exclusive meet and greets, access to clubs, and so much more.
Sara realizes that the power of owning digital assets is what’s carrying NFTs and will sustain their longevity in Web3. “If we think of it in the bigger picture, people have been interested in collecting items for as long as we can remember, and NFTs aren’t so different from that.”
Sara also shares her knowledge on how communications and PR is changing with Web3, and how you can easily get in touch with journalists from just one easy click – via an app you probably already have on your phone!

📚 NFT Explained (Ok + all the other Web3 jargon you’re not sure about)
It’s winter in the world of NFTs. Can direct-to-consumer brands keep their Web3 communities warm?
In the past 12 months, a number of brands have excitedly launched NFT projects. Now the buzz has died down, can they keep their token-holders happy?
Loyalty NFTs have the power to drive the next bull run
It may not feel like it, but crypto has reached yet another inflection point. The next growth spurt in crypto will come from tokens supporting loyalty programs that motivate community engagement, not from yield-generating protocols.
