Women in Web3 - Issue #20
Hello! Welcome to Women in Web3. I’m Carly from Weld and this is the 20th edition of our weekly get-down. One of the biggest topics from last week’s curation was #NFTNYC. So many events, so little time. I wasn’t there IRL, but I can only dream of it being something like Mary Kate + Ashley’s ‘New York Minute.’ (If you’re a ‘90s girl, you know exactly what flick I’m talking about.) So this week, we’ve got a bit more of what went down in the Big Apple – closing with an in-person recap by the lovely Liya Dashkina. (Our first contributor!)
To start, here’s more highlights:

Exhausted, but exhilarated we have closed out this NFT NYC week. And what a week it has been! I arrived in NY with very little expectations. I knew there were a lot of events that were due to take place, that a lot of people were attending, but I could not fathom just how much of a whirlwind this would be.
Here is a round-up of the Women in Web3 events that I managed to cover during my week at NFT NYC…although I’m sure I have missed many!
The satellite events and panels started on Sunday, two days before the official conference kicked off. NFT-VIP, produced by the brilliant Julie Sue, set the tone with a Women in Web3 meet up hosted alongside a number of panels on Marketing, Project Funding and Music NFTs. Oh… did I mentioned this was poolside on top of a building in Times Square? I mean, is there any other way?!
On Monday, we kicked off the day with an intimate breakfast with AllBright at a cute French patisserie by Bryant Park. We discussed funding, community management and careers in web3. But the main pre-conference event for Women in Web3 and allies that day had to be the We Are Web3 Summit hosted by MetaAngels and Adobe, with amazing speakers including Carly Reilly, Amber Vittoria, Shondra Washington – and many more, discussing empowerment through art and building communities.
Tuesday, the main NFT NYC conference kicked off and the crowds spilled out across seven venues around Times Square. The notable Women in Web3 events that day included Coinbase NFT WiW3 drinks, hosted at Coinbase’s Future Market pop-up featuring huge screens around the room that one could connect their Coinbase wallet to and show-off their NFT collection. Most of the main women-led projects were spotted in attendance throughout the night. Special mention – The Paloma cocktails were delicious!
Wednesday started with a combined breakfast for Curious Addys, Zen Academy and MetaAngels communities – albeit not really a Women in Web3 event, but it was great to meet the members of other communities and I generally have come to a conclusion that collaboration equals efficiency when it comes to NFT NYC. This was followed by an intimate roundtable for about 30 women to speak about how to get funding. Hosted by EveWealth and HerHouseDAO, the conversation was candid and at times sobering, reminding us how far we still have to go in bridging that funding gap for women.
By Thursday we all felt like we had been in NY for three weeks. Sleep deprived, unable to tell what time of day it is or how many people we met over the course of the week – but we soldiered on! BFF x Mavion panel and breakfast at Luminary was the place to be, with founders of the projects discussing their journeys into web3 as well as a guest appearance from designer Rebecca Minkoff. The session concluded with a meditation and a sound bath by PeaceInsideLive.
And of course, saving the best till last… the one, the only, the icon – Madonna performing at the World of Women event on the closing night of NFT NYC, on the closing weekend of Pride Month… was everything and more we could have asked for! Until next year #womeninweb3…
